Maasai Beaded Lamp Shades
These beautiful Maasai beaded lamp shades are traditional to the tribe in Kenya. The beadwork embodies their whole culture and signifies life stages of warriorhood, marriage, age and status. Mama Tito, our designer, added a modern twist. The colors of the beads have significance in their culture: Blue represents energy and sustenance. Black represents unity, harmony and solidarity. Orange represents hospitality, warmth, friendship and generosity. White is for purity and health. Red is for bravery, strength and unity. It is also their most important color. Green represents nourishment and production. Yellow is for fertility and growth.
